Before You Send It
- Ask about one thing, not five. A single, specific situation gets a far richer answer than a question that tries to cover your whole life at once.
- Give a little context. A sentence or two about the situation — not your whole history, just enough for the reader to know what they’re looking at.
- Be specific about what you want to know. “What’s going on with my relationship?” is harder to answer well than “what’s holding back a reconciliation with my ex?”
- Think twice before defaulting to yes-or-no. If you actually want detail — the why, the timing, the next step — a strict yes-or-no framing will flatten the answer. Save that phrasing for questions where a flat answer is genuinely what you need.
- Say what you already know. If you’ve already tried something or ruled something out, mention it. It keeps the reader from repeating ground you’ve covered.
- Skip the test questions. Holding back details to see whether the reader “really knows” wastes the question you’re actually here to ask — you’ll get a much better answer if you’re straightforward from the start.
None of this needs to take long. A well-scoped question is often shorter than a vague one, not longer — it’s just more precise about what it’s actually asking.
